WELCOME TO THE GREEN LIVING GROUP

MINUTES FROM THE SECOND MEETING OF THE CORSCOMBE AND HALSTOCK GREEN LIVING GROUP

The subject for this meeting was Spend Less Eat Better and the meeting was held on 6th October 2021 at Deborah and Chris’ house.

There was a wide ranging discussion about the benefits of organic vs local non organic food and the benefits of veg boxes vs local food.  Some group members were able to achieve zero food waste by meticulous planning of their meals.  Some members are vegetarian, others still enjoy meat and dairy and there was more discussion about understanding the environmental impacts of products such as tofu vs pasture fed, local meat.

Agreed actions from the meeting: -

* some group members will keep meat and dairy food diaries so that they can be clear on quantities eaten and their provenance.  Information to be shared at next meeting

* all group members to look at the Go Go Eco website and share their views by email before the next meeting.  Possibility of arranging a Van Stop in Corscombe.

* all group members to look at the terracycle website to review best ways of recycling waste that would otherwise go to landfill.  Deborah said she would be willing to take in dentistry products (empty toothpaste tubes, tooth brushes etc) and possibly Tetrapaks.  All to report at next meeting

* Mark to investigate the provenance of Co op tofu and report back.

The group agreed a name of Treadlightly.

Next meeting will be 2nd November 2021 at 19.00 hrs at Tagra Farm on the subject of Spend Less on Energy.

Dorset Green Living Project

The first meeting of the Corscombe and Halstock Parish Green Living project took place on 1st September chaired by Deborah Childs, with guest speaker Gillian Perrott from the Beaminster Green Living group who provided usual advice on how to get started.

The purpose of the project is to explore ways to live more simply so that our impact on the planet can be reduced with a potential benefit of a reduction in outgoings for households .Future meetings, which take place in group members' homes, have been planned and each member will lead on one of the prescribed topics for example: Spend Less, eat better: Spend less on energy and Community building
